Gevalia Kaffe - Now Available at Safeway Stores!

Gevalia Kaffe, Sweden's preferred brand of coffee used to be available online only; now Gevalia is now offering its rich, luxurious U.S. coffee in supermarket aisles nationwide in 10 varieties, including roast and ground, whole bean, flavored and decaffeinated varieties.  Safeway stores is the first to launch Gevalia Kaffe, so be sure to look for it there!
My husband and I had the pleasure of sampling the Gevalia Kaffe House Blend and French Roast varieties. We found the House Blend to have a smooth rich flavor; it is the perfect start to a busy weekday morning.  The French Roast is also wonderfully rich, with a bit more of an intense flavor profile; we prefer this on lazy weekend mornings.  Next I would like to try the Chocolate Mocha flavor... YUM!

Look for these 10 Gevalia Kaffe Varieties at your local Safeway retailer:

Traditional Roast (ground and whole bean), House Blend, House Blend Decaf, French Roast (ground and whole bean), Colombia, Espresso Roast, Vanilla and Chocolate Mocha.

Do you drink Gevalia Kaffe?  If so, I would love to hear from you; feel free to leave me comment sharing which of the Gevalia Kaffe varieties are you most looking forward to picking up at Safeway to try.

GIVEAWAY: Movie Themed Prize Pack from One for the Money starring Kathryn Heigl

Examples of items in the One for the Money prize pack

I am hosting a movie themed prize pack giveaway for the upcoming Lionsgate film ONE FOR THE MONEY based on the novel by Janet Evanovich and starring Katherine Heigl. ONE FOR THE MONEY will be released in theaters this Friday, January 27!

The prize pack includes the following items: Tote bag, t-shirt, notepad and lipstick pen, bookmarks (see photo above for prize examples; quantities received may differ).

ONE FOR THE MONEY SYNOPSIS:

"Katherine Heigl brings Stephanie Plum - the popular heroine of Janet Evanovich's worldwide best-selling eighteen-book mystery series - to vibrant life in Lionsgate and Lakeshore Entertainment's ONE FOR THE MONEY.

A proud, born-and-bred Jersey girl, Stephanie Plum's got plenty of attitude, even if she's been out of work for the last six months and just lost her car to a debt collector. Desperate for some fast cash, Stephanie turns to her last resort: convincing her sleazy cousin to give her a job at his bail bonding company...as a recovery agent. True, she doesn't even own a pair of handcuffs and her weapon of choice is pepper spray, but that doesn't stop Stephanie from taking on Vinny's biggest bail-jumper: former vice cop and murder suspect Joe Morelli - yup, the same sexy, irresistible Joe Morelli who seduced and dumped her back in high school.

Nabbing Morelli would be satisfying payback - and a hefty payday - but as Stephanie learns the ins and outs of becoming a recovery agent from Ranger, a hunky colleague who's the best in the business, she also realizes the case against Morelli isn't airtight. Add to the mix her meddling family, a potentially homicidal boxer, witnesses who keep dying and the problem of all those flying sparks when she finds Morelli himself...well, suddenly Stephanie's new job isn't nearly as easy as she thought."

ENTER THE GIVEAWAY:

To enter simply follow my blog publicly on Google Friend Connect (follow widget is in the right hand side bar) AND leave me a comment telling me why you want to win this prize pack. (1) US winner will be chosen at random. Contest entry deadline is Friday February 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. PST.

Nail Polish Trends

My teenage daughter is in love - with nail polish!  I am always curious to see what her daily nail "art" will look like.  She has become what some would call a fashion maven, always donning the cutting edge looks, right down to her fingernails!  She isn't interested in nail polish in natural looking colors; for that matter she isn't even interested in having each nail painted the same color! What my daughter likes are wild shades of blue, green, purple, fuchsia, silver, yellow and black nail polishes, to name a few.  A far cry from nail polish trends when I was a teenager - red nail polish was about as daring as a teen girl could get (Wow, that sure ages me!).

My daughter especially loves crackle nail polish; this is a special type of nail polish that you apply over a solid color nail polish in a different shade - the crackle nail polish will literally crack apart as it dries revealing the first color you applied underneath.  It is a look that I am still getting used to, but I am sure that if I was a teenager when it came out I would have really liked it!

Ultimately I am thrilled that my daughter is expressing her creativity and support the fun fashion looks that she wants to experiment with!

Cookbook Review: Money Saving Meals and Round 2 Recipes by Sandra Lee

I enjoy watching Sandra Lee's Money Saving Meals show on Food Network, so I was excited to be given the opportunity to review her new cookbook entitled Money Saving Meals and Round 2 Recipes.  The focus of the cookbook is to help readers save money by making recipes which have leftover ingredients that can be used for one or more additional recipes the same week... great concept!  One feature I appreciated is the price breakdown for each ingredient in the recipes, so you can see what recipes fit best into your grocery budget.

There are a wide variety of easy recipes that families will savor in Money Saving Meals and Round 2 Recipes; two of my family's favorites are the Baked Mashed Potatoes and the Slow Cooked Orange Pork Shoulder Tacos with Cabbage Slaw.  YUM! I especially like how Sandra Lee provides a delicious array of cocktails recipes throughout the book to complement the meals... Orange Basil Bellinis anyone?

Keep on rockin' out the savings ideas Sandra! :)

Movie Fan

The Author of this post is Darius Boone

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved watching movies. I can remember going to the movies when I was really young with my dad. One time he took my two brothers and me to see the movie Mary Poppins. My mom was in the hospital having just had my sister. The movie theater was right down the street from the hospital. Back in those days children were not allowed to go into the hospital to see their new siblings like they can now. So we just had to be content to look at the outside of the hospital as my dad pointed it out and told us that was where our new baby sister was with our mom. It has been many years since that outing with my dad. But I still love to watch movies. These days it has become so expensive to go to the movies in a theater. Now I mostly watch movies at home. I recently signed up for direct tv premium. Now I have a much bigger choice in the movies I can watch and I don’t have the big expense of driving to a theater and paying big bucks just to watch a movie. I think I will invite my dad over tomorrow night to watch a reshowing of Mary Poppins.

Book Review: The Black Shard

In 2010 I posted my review of a wonderful children's fantasy chapter book entitled The Magic Warble, written by local Seattle author Victoria Simcox.  Since then my daughters and I have anxiously awaited the arrival of The Magic Warble's sequel, The Black Shard.  I am happy to announce that the wait is finally over... and it was well worth it!

Being a fan of all things concerning faerie and otherworldly realms, I was pulled into the story of The Black Shard instantly.  What I really love is how the author combines realistic teen issues with fairy tale fantasy.  For example, the book's heroine Kristina who is from our world, experiences her first budding romance with a handsome teenage Prince from a fantasy world, all the while dealing with the very real insecurities young teen girls are feeling.

I was so taken with The Black Shard that I read it almost constantly until I was finished!  The author has a delightful writing style that is engaging for all ages, yet not to difficult for children to understand.  I truly look forward to the sequel to the Black Shard - the cliff hanger at the end is intense!

I highly recommend The Black Shard for all lovers of fantasy chapter books, which I feel that tween and teen girls will especially enjoy and relate to.

About the Author:

"Victoria was born in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, to an Austrian immigrant mother, and a Dutch immigrant father. She now lives in Western Washington with her husband, Russ and their three children, Toby, Kristina, and William. Her other family members are a Chihuahua, named Pipsy, and two cats, named Frodo and Fritz. Besides being an author, Victoria is a home-schooling mother of twelve years and an elementary school art teacher of eleven years. In her spare time, Victoria enjoys managing her two older children’s Celtic band. She also loves reading, painting watercolors, hiking, good movies, and just simply hanging out with her family and friends."
